Interview Questions and Review

Today on Love Bytes, I answer questions like this one:

What is your favorite positive saying?
I can. When I was teaching, I told my students that when they told me “I can’t” that they really couldn’t do whatever I assigned. Until they said “I can,” they had already talked themselves out of succeeding. “I can” gave them permission to do something outside their view of themselves.

Also, read the wonderful 4-heart review at the Love Bytes website.

And finally if you'd like to read the book, you can buy it at these online retailers and anywhere eBooks are sold:

Jeff Answers The Actor's Studio Questions

Instead an interview for Pride-Promotions, Jeff Mason of Behr Facts decided he'd much rather answer the ten questions James Lipton asks at the end of the Inside the Actor's Studio interviews:

1. What's your favorite word?
2. What's your least favorite word?
3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
4. What turns you off creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
5. What sound or noise do you love?
6. What sound or noise do you hate?
7. What is your favorite curse word
8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
9. What profession would you not like to do?
10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?

I particularly like his answer to #10 and I hope you do too!  Read Jeff's answers at Pride-Promotions.

Scattered Thoughts about Redesigning Max

Wonderful dog logo from
Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words blog

Wow! Melanie M of Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words likes Redesigning Max!  Here's some of what she said:

Do you love contemporary M/M romance?  Not familiar with Pat Henshaw and her Foothills Pride series?  I can recommend them both.  They don’t have to be read in order. You will get people from each book mingling in the others, so much fun. Pick them up and  enjoy them both.

Thank you, Melanie!  You made my day.

Molly Lolly Likes Fredi and Max

Fredi and Max of Redesigning Max are visiting Molly Lolly's blog site today and are having a great time.

First off, Molly gave them a great review, so Fredi's going wild and being his extra flamboyant self.  Max really is trying to hold him down, but without a bed, it's pretty difficult.

Secondly, Fredi is regretting some of the things he said in his interview.  You never know when you might need a good word from a past employer, so burning his bridges publicly is starting to look like a bad idea to him.

Last, they'd love to have you join them at Molly's!  Jimmy from What's in a Name? might even provide you with some coffee--if you enter the Rafflecopter giveaway, that is.

USA Today and Other Reviews

This has been a banner day for Redesigning Max, the second of the Foothills Pride novellas after What's in a Name?

First, Becky Condit reviewed the book for USA Today and said some very, very nice things about it.  She made me cry at the end when she said, "I recommend Redesigning Max as a fun, enjoyable romance with memorable characters, good and bad, and I recommend Pat Henshaw as a romance writer to follow."

Not only did she like Max, but she also recommended the first book, What's in a Name?  How wonderful is that?

As if that weren't enough for one day--and it is terrific!--Max was reviewed in two other places: Two reviewers give their opinions of the book at Inked Rainbow Reviews, one with a 5-star and the other with a 4-star review.

And Lucy at Hearts on Fire pins 4 stars on the book with her lovely review.

Where can you buy a copy of the books?  Well, there are always the links on the right side of this blog piece and the titles above are linked to the Dreamspinner Press online store.  Or you can buy the books wherever eBooks are sold.

One of Those Days...And Then Wow!

A stunning 5 Apple Cinnamon Bread Rating
for Redesigning Max
When Adam Fell, my work in progress, is a mess--a total and utter mess.  Chapters in the wrong order, timeline out of sequence, the worst case scenario for a writer.  True, it has to do with having my focus completely shot because of my brother's health problem.  But still...

So I'm struggling to get it into shape and still can't focus.  Redesigning Max came out on July 29th and like every other author, I hope that readers will like it and maybe even get my point.  (Another blog on that later.)

And like every author, I have one eye to the reviews as I unscramble Adam.  Unlike other authors, I'm rejoicing that I'm a 10 for 10 match as a blood marrow donor and waiting for when I need to be at Mayo's for the PBSC transfer.  In other words, I'm frayed around the edges.

Then Bec at Bike Book Reviews hits me with an absolutely wonderful (and insider joke funny) review of Redesigning Max.  It's amazing how quickly my day brightened and became less frustrating.  Thank you, Bec!

The book is also featured on Elisa's website today without a review.  I'm bummed that I can't even enter the 2015 awards because my books are strictly eBooks and not available in print.  Ah, well.  Rules are rules, right?  Maybe in the future she'll accept the E's.

But even with that bit of downer, Bec and her review have buoyed me up and kept me going today.

On the Road with Fredi and Max

I'm waiting for Fredi and Max of Redesigning Max to join me as we visit Prism Book Alliance and Mikky's World of Books today.  Let's see if they're ready, shall we?

Pat opens Max's front door and hears....

Fredi: Today, honey, we're visiting two sites--or rather revisiting one of the sites.  You've packed us box lunches and charted a safe path through the underbrush, so we won't get lost, right?

Max: Fredi, there's no underbrush.  This is a virtual hike.  No too-hot sun, no gnats or flies, no swatting back branches and weeds.  It's all good.

Fredi: I knew you'd say that, Sweetness. (sighs)  Still, we're not sitting out on the patio slurping down pina coladas, are we? No. No. We're going to be going somewhere.  Which means I have to dress up.  I mean, what is a person supposed to wear when we go visiting?

Max: Doesn't matter.  Pat's going to be doing all the talking this time.  Just sit back, nod, relax.  Wear jeans, you know, casual.  Relax.

Fredi: (with an even bigger sigh)  You always tell me that, you lunk-head.  Relax, Fredi.  Relax.

Max starts massaging Fredi's shoulders.

Max (purring) It's gonna be okay.  Just....

Fredi:  Don't even say it!  Just keep doing what you're doing.

Fredi Answers Interview Questions

Well, you've heard from Max, a man of few words, in Redesigning Max.  Now it's Fredi's turn to answer a few questions for Pride-Promotions' Character Study.

What kinds of things does the wonderful Fredi (right on the cover) talk about?  Here's a sample:

What is Fredi’s hair color? Eye color?
Oh, honey, if it weren’t for the addition of streaks and highlights—whenever I have enough hours to get them—I’d be what my wonderful Max calls a “mud hen.”  I’m brown and brown by birth.  But, hey, God didn’t give us hairdressers only to work on Dolly Parton and the lovelies on Drag Show, right?  Since I couldn’t decide what color to go with and didn’t make time to get it done, I’m in my natural state on the book cover.  More’s the pity, right?  And my eyes?  Whatever color contacts go with my outfit, of course.

What kind of distinguishing facial features does Fredi have?
Well, we can’t all be as pretty as I am.  My friends Jimmy and Felicity tell me I’ll always look boyish even in old age.  I’m just fine looking like Dorian Gray.  You know, I love that scraggly, hairy look on my man, but on me?  Oh, hell no, baby.  Of course, I didn’t inherit the hair gene.  I only have to shave once or twice a week.  And my chest?  No wax, on moi.  All natural, smooth as a baby’s bum.  Besides, if I did hair it up, I’d look like a kid about to go out Trick or Treating, which I used to do adult-fashion when I was wild and single.

What's Max Got to Say for Himself?

Pride-Promotions asked Max (left on the cover), the love interest in Redesigning Max, some questions and have recently published his answers.  Here's a couple of the Q&As to get you started:

Does your character have a birthmark? Where is it? What about scars? How did he get them?

Yeah, I got scars. Lordy, have I got scars. Got ‘em on my legs, back, arms, and mostly my hands. I’ve pulled hooks outta my hands when would-be fly fishermen caught me instead of a fish. Pulled slivers of all sizes outta my fingers settin’ up and takin’ down campsites. I’ve even been axed in the leg when some city fella decided he wanted to chop wood. Had to cut the trip short for that one. He got a hands-on lesson about first aid, though. Got no birthmarks, but definitely have me some scars.

Where does your character go when he’s angry?

If you ever see me standin’ in the middle of the forest lookin’ straight up with my arms crossed on my chest, ya better take the long way around me. I’m shittin’ fire bricks and anything in my path is legal tinder. The forest fire’s your fault if you poke me.

To read more questions and answers from Max, go here.  To preorder the book, go here.  To read the first in the Foothills Pride series, What's in a Name?, go to Dreamspinner Press, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or wherever eBooks are sold.

Promoting Redesigning Max

I love writing.  I can get lost for hours at a time in worlds that don't exist, listening to people who are figments of my imagination.  But sell what I write in the global marketplace?  Forget about it!

That's why I love Will Parkinson at Pride-Promotions.  He not only comes up with wonderfully eye-catching graphics to sell my books, but he also has come up with two outstanding taglines for the latest Foothills Pride story, Redesigning Max.

So I want to take this moment before Will's promotion rolls out into public view to thank him.  Jimmy and Guy from What's in a Name? thank you, and Fredi and Max from this newest book thank you too!

Winners! We've Got Winners...

Jimmy and Guy, protagonists of What's in a Name?, talk about the Starbucks coffee card giveaway:

Jimmy:  See?  I told you readers would enter to win a coffee card.

Guy: Huh.  Still think we shoulda offered a bottle of Chivas or a case of Flat Tire or something.

Jimmy:  Hey, hey, you can't argue with 1, 591 people.  Coffee's popular.

Guy:  That's how many entered?  Huh.  Guess there're a lot of thirsty people around.

Jimmy:  A lot of connoisseurs of non-alcoholic beverages, you mean.

Guy:  Whatever.  Who won?

Jimmy:  Barbra and Cornelia!  They should be sipping away as we speak.

Guy:  Hope they bought a copy of the book, too.  Then they can come into Stonewall's and tell me all the mistakes I made wooing you.

Jimmy bursts into giggles, muttering "Woo, woo, woo..." and has to take a few deep breaths before he can add, "Congratulations, Barbra and Cornelia!  Enter Stonewall's at your own risk."

Guy pulls Jimmy in for a kiss and they walk away.  Maybe even to drink some coffee.  Maybe.

Thanks again to Will Parkinson of Pride-Promotions for all the wonderful work he did on What's in a Name?  You are the best!

Another Morning with Jimmy and Guy

Somewhere in Northern California:

I heard the shower go on and then nothing for a while.  Guy and I were visiting Crystal’s Many Reviewers and Rebecca Cohen Writes today to promote What’s in a Name? and didn’t have time to waste.

I opened the bathroom door and yelled at Guy, “What’s taking you so long?  What are you doing in there?”

“Waiting.”

“What?  We don’t have time to wait around,” I protested.  “What are you waiting for?”

“Santa Claus.”

As I thought about what he’d said, he added, “The Easter bunny.”  Another silence, then, "Land shark."

Oh, yeah.  Now I got it.  I shucked my clothes and opened the shower door.

“How about a barista instead?”

“Yeah, that’s what I was waiting for.”

Join Jimmy and Guy (after they get cleaned up and out of the shower) at Crystal’s Many Reviewers and Rebecca Cohen Writes today.  Also, remember to sign up to win a coffee card!

Thank you, Will Parkinson and Pride-Promotions, for making this Remember Me Tour, a trip to remember!

I can't tell you how much I'm going to miss you between books.  Will will be doing his magic for Redesigning Max this summer when it releases from Dreamspinner Press.  Until then, buy and read all the books he promotes!

Behind the Scenes with Jimmy and Guy

Jimmy Patterson and Guy Stone of What's in a Name? are getting ready for two blog visits today.  Here's what's happening in their kitchen:

What’s that you got in your hand?” Jimmy asked.

Guy looked down, pecked a kiss on Jimmy’s brow, and answered, “Pop Tart.  Why?”

Jimmy frowned and plucked the Pop Tart from Guy’s fingers.  “That’s not a nutritious breakfast for a big guy like you.  We’ll be out visiting a couple of places today.  You’re stomach’s going to be making rude noises while we’re telling people about the book.”

Guy rubbed his midriff, and Jimmy got a lustful glint in his eyes.  Jimmy suddenly slapped Guy’s hand away.

“Nice try, but we’ve got to get serious here.  Or we’re going to be late.”  Jimmy turned and grabbed some cheese and eggs from the fridge.  “Here.  Grate some cheese.  I’m making you an omelet.  I also got some free-trade Nicaraguan dark that we’ll brew in the French press.”

As Guy sat down and started rubbing the gouda chunk against the grater, he asked, “Where we going today?”

“Well, first to Prism Book Alliance.  They’ve got some questions for Pat, so all we have to do is sit and look alert.  And not make any hunger noises.”

“Hey!  I didn’t say I wouldn’t eat a real breakfast,” Guy yelped.

“Then we’re going to Elisa’s blog.  You know, the one with her reviews andramblings.  Not really sure what’s happening.  We’ll see when we get there.”

When Guy was eating his omelet and toast, Jimmy zipped into the bathroom to get ready.  Then it was Guy’s turn.  By the time Guy got back, the kitchen was clean and Jimmy was munching on something.

“Whatcha got there?” Guy asked, pointing.

“Uh, Pop Tart,” Jimmy answered with a laugh.  “Let’s go!  We’re late.”

Two Traveling Men and One Author

“We on the road again today?” Guy asked, accepting a cup of coffee from his boyfriend Jimmy.

“Yeah.  Two stops.  First, Wicked Faerie’s Tales and Reviews.”

“Yeah?  Wicked, huh?  What you wearing?”

“Just my regular stuff.  I think you should go with the leather vest and pants, though.”  Jimmy had that glint in his eye, the one hot-wired to Guy’s dick.

“Not a chance.”

“No?  Even if I beg?”

“No.  It’s freaking cold out there.  Maybe over the long johns and a shirt.”  Guy glared at Jimmy’s smirk.  “And we’re taking the truck, not the bike.”

“Awwww, my big, cute biker’s afraid he’ll get his toes cold?”

Guy shook his head.  Jimmy’s teasing wasn’t going to get to him today.  Besides, he had teasing of his own when they slipped into bed tonight.

“You said we’ve got two places to visit.  Who else?”

Jimmy looked like he was working himself into a little pout, so Guy stood sipping his coffee and waited him out.

Finally Jimmy sighed.

“It’s just all work today, then is it?” he asked.

Guy nodded.

“Then we go to Kristy’s Brain Food.”

Guy started laughing.  “Should have started there.  Looks like someone needs a little brain food today.”

Hope all of you can join Jimmy, Guy, and author Pat at WickedFaerie’s and Kristy’s Brain Food.  Should be a lively day.
